Abstract

“Whenever and wherever I want to travel, I go”. This notion sounds idealistic but hardly practical. However, a new generation – Millennials – is putting this mindset into action. The United Nations estimates that nearly 200 million travellers fall into this age cohort (22–37 years old). Millennials generate more than $180 billion in tourism revenue annually and are rapidly becoming the most important demographic to the hospitality and tourism industries (UNWTO, 2012). They desire something differentiated and personalised when it comes to travel, particularly in the context of urban tourism.
