Abstract

At the helm of Studio REV- is Marisa Jahn, an artist, activist, and media scholar. The projects Studio REV- creates stretch across art and design, engaging mobile media in their formation to involve the increasing class of domestic, elder, and childcare workers. As a social practice art project, NannyVan works to improve how information about domestic rights is disseminated to these workers. NannyVan evolved into CareForce, a larger project that traverses across the United States to advocate for carers’ rights. The tactics used for these projects often involve mobile media applications, for instance, a phone app co-designed with domestic workers to help other workers know their rights. This chapter will explore how Studio REV- co-designs with their communities and how the mobile applications are created and valued by the carers who use them.
