Abstract

There has been a marked trend worldwide to broaden rigorous STEM offerings to all students. This movement, often fueled by dwindling standing in global comparative exams or economic standing, has produced more STEM schools globally. This chapter explains the emergence of STEM schools, discusses the research on components of elementary and secondary STEM school models, and details key characteristics and the most influential aspects of these specialized schools. The chapter then discusses the potential for vertical articulation across STEM schools, given the similarities and differences in elementary and secondary models.
