It may seem odd to begin a presentation on computer-based interventions for reading disability by discussing research on genetic factors. However, the evidence for strong genetic influence in many cases of reading disability has been one of the main motivations for our work on computer-based methods for remediation. A brief review of the genetic evidence will help clarify why such extraordinary environmental support may be needed for many children with reading disabilities.
