Abstract

This is an account of the state-of-the-art in journalism ethics. Despite 125 years of achievements, journalism ethics faces a heavy agenda today. Theoretical models still require intellectual work. A daunting list of explicit issues needs attention, with four of them of major importance in this global and technologically sophisticated age: social justice, truth, nonviolence, and human dignity. And as these efforts in theory and application are underway, relativism is pushing the entire field to a crossroads. While advancement in any one area does not guarantee success for the whole, the task of journalism ethics will not be complete without all three dimensions of the enterprise flourishing.
