Abstract

The purpose of this chapter is to describe a model of leadership that includes a change dimension as leadership behaviour. The new three-factor model adds the change-oriented leadership style to the earlier two (production- and employee-oriented) leadership styles. The emergence of a change-oriented style is suggested as being a consequence of greater turbulence and uncertainties in organisations and their environments in the late twentieth century, giving rise to post-bureaucratic structures.
