Abstract

This chapter focuses on two audit methods, both of which use a system of data collection log-sheet (DCL) to collect information. The DCL is a structured form on which specific items of detail have to be completed. The information content being sought, and the method of entry (tick box, Yes/No, Likert scale, open comment, etc.) are carefully determined, and the DCL is thoroughly field-tested prior to the audit exercise. This method differs from the questionnaire approach in that here the respondent measures and evaluates actual communication experiences immediately after they have occurred. With questionnaires, the respondent is asked to reflect back on, and evaluate, past general communication trends and patterns, rather than focus on the specific here-and-now.
