Abstract

It is very difficult to present an overview of educational leadership in Latin America given the diversity of policy and practice. Therefore the authors have chosen to focus on three of the most important countries in the region: Argentina, Brazil and Chile. The variety of contexts and the limited space of a single chapter have constrained the authors so that they have had to be selective. This does not imply an underestimation of the importance or interest of the other countries in the region. Throughout the chapter, there will be consideration of the similarities and contrasts in Latin America focusing on school leaders, that is, head teachers and their direct assistants (for example, vice-presidents or assistant head teachers).
