Abstract

Three United Nations (UN) conventions have been prepared on criminal justice issues: the 1988 Convention against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, the 2000 Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (with its three protocols), and the 2003 Convention against Corruption. Each has contributed to a more uniform and streamlined regime of international cooperation in criminal matters. This chapter places the three conventions within the context of the evolution of international cooperation.
