Abstract

It is imperative to ensure the rights of people to education and to produce education that sustains life. While protecting the school children and adult students from any harm and disasters, we recognise too the role of education in creating knowledge and awareness that will contribute to disaster risk reduction (DRR) in all aspects of human lives, in all places, at all times, at the personal level, family, community, workplaces and society in general. There is a vast reserve of resources that can be mobilised for DRR in the educational system, such as the students, teachers, researchers, staff, parents and community association, the school facilities and knowledge itself.
