Abstract

The term ‘wildfire’ and its associated phrases refer to an unplanned fire in wilderness vegetation or bush, including grass fires, forest fires and scrub fires, i.e. any fire outside the built-up urban environment. ‘Bushfire’ tends to be used in Australia while the USA and Canada call it a ‘wildfire’ or a ‘wildland fire’. In Europe and Asia it is usually called a ‘forest fire’.
