Learning and performing of motor skills is an integral component of the athletic experience. To be able to participate in competitive sport, athletes need to acquire a minimum level of sport skill, which they accomplish through many hours of practice. Once a minimum level of skill is acquired, athletes can perform these skills in the competition context. Thus, participation in sports requires both the learning and performing of motor skills.
