Abstract

Addressing goodness, right action, and moral responsibility, ethics considered with food is universal in its applications. Since all people eat, issues of food and ethics should interest everyone, whether consumers, producers, or both. Food is, moreover, natural in origin, as well as cultural, and it is indispensable to life. Just as food mirrors our relationships to community and society, it similarly reflects our interactions with nature. In our technological, industrial, and interconnected global society, food and ethics addresses humans and human cultures, but also other forms of life and the environment, and the future as well as the present.
