This article introduces theories and methods for exploring the representation of food in films; provides examples of existing scholarship (in print and online journals); and emphasizes the interdisciplinarity necessary for discussions of food in film. The authors suggest that interdisciplinary academic training is advantageous, since no universities offer graduate degrees (or funding) in food in film. Yet there’s plenty of potential in this field. Beyond further analyses of feature films, scholars can investigate the evolving food film genre, food-focused documentaries, animated films, and online/computer games and videos, along with cooking shows.
