Abstract

Among geostrategic regions or military theatres of interests and potential operations to the US, Asia presents the most dangerous possibility of spreading nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction (WMD), combined with serious political grievances and inadequate supports against deterrence failure. This chapter considers the present and prospective threat environment relative to nuclear weapons proliferation in Asia, and explores the problematical aspects of more nuclear armed states in Asia, even if additional nuclear weapons are not immediately followed by blowouts of deterrence and crisis stability. 1
