Abstract

Over the past 45 years, suicide rates have increased by 60% worldwide with a global mortality rate of one death every 40 seconds (WHO, 2012). Identified risk factors include comorbid psychiatric illness, impulsive behaviour and aggression, substance abuse, and stress; however, the exact aetiology of suicidal behaviour remains unclear.
