Abstract

Suicidal behaviors have been examined and addressed from different perspectives: anthropological, philosophical, sociological, bio-medical and theological, to name a few, but they still remain one of the most mysterious phenomena known to man (Cobb, 1801, cited in Saraiva, 1999). There has been a growing interest in suicidal behaviors in recent years; one of the reasons for this interest is the increase in the number of suicides worldwide. While some nations appear to produce more suicide-focused research than others, there are still potentially valuable lessons and insights to be learned from research that is undertaken in less prominent countries.
