Abstract

The concept of humanitarian space has received a lot of attention, and though many of the debates are inconclusive, it is still a subject of particular interest to academics, aid agencies and students. As humanitarian organizations try to figure out how to access civilians affected by conflicts in Afghanistan, Syria, Sudan and Colombia, the notion of humanitarian space has been interchangeably a tool, an instrument, a principle and the cause of many disputes. Whether or not one believes in the concept of ‘humanitarian space’, it is, and will continue to be, a significant part of any humanitarian project in conflict areas.
