Abstract

As this Handbook demonstrates, we are located in an extremely exciting time for developing understandings of digital literacy practices in early childhood. As other chapters in this volume make clear, the last few years have seen a rapid acceleration in empirical studies of young children’s digital literacy practices in a variety of disciplines (e.g. Chaudron 2015; Akhter 2016; Aliagas and Margallo 2017; Marsh et al. 2017). We see this Handbook as lying in a confluence of various disciplinary endeavours that for many contributors, and, we hope, readers, might usefully be distilled and united through such a term as New Literacies.
