Abstract

Social psychologists understand ‘ability’ as an individual potential for achievement, with the conditions in the social and cultural learning environments playing important roles in its development and transformation into manifest achievements. In contrast, learning or educational psychologists focus on the individual utilisation of learning opportunities, and see the pivotal point for individual success as being learning and achievement motivation, as well as personal inclinations and interests in high-level achievement or expertise.
