Abstract

This chapter focuses on the emotional difficulties encountered by gifted children as they attempt to respond appropriately to the situations and people they encounter on a daily basis. The emotional needs of gifted children have been the topic of much research (Clark 1992; Hollingworth 1942; Janos and Robinson 1985; Silverman 1994), but as yet there are no definitive conclusions that gifted children cope any differently with environmental demands than their less able peers. The overall evidence suggests that individual outcomes depend on the individual and the specific situation.
