Abstract

One of the most cited models about the internationalization of firms often referred to as the “Uppsala model” was developed by Johanson and Vahlne (1977) in their seminal Journal of International Business Studies article. This model has also been very influential in the international entrepreneurship literature not least when it comes to comparing and contrasting it with models explaining the phenomenon of international new ventures (INVs) or born globals (cf. Oviatt and McDougall, 1994; McDougall et al., 1994; Madsen and Servais, 1997; Knight and Cavusgil, 2004).
