Abstract

The world’s population is ageing: one in four people are expected to be over the age of sixty-five in the next two decades making “the senior citizen” the largest demographic group in the Western world. This statistic has provoked fears of an impending “grey tsunami” in some regions 1 and instigated the World Health Organization to issue a global call for countries to promote an “active ageing” agenda as a part of public policy. 2 At the same time that humans are expected to live longer, and there is a major demographic shift as the “baby boomer” generation ages, there has been a proliferation of mobile media technologies worldwide.
