Abstract

As do many academics who live in small apartments and have smaller offices, periodically I winnow my books to separate what I must own from what I have enjoyed. This year I once again performed that task, carefully saving all books pertaining to news and placing them in some logical order. Marching down rows of still crammed shelves, my books on news insistently remind me that from the earliest to the most recent American and European studies, the most valuable research has been qualitative.
