Abstract

Doping in sport is a sensitive issue. It has been condemned by media, politicians, and sports organizations for more than fifty years. In the wake of Tommy Simpson’s amphetamine-related fatal collapse at the Tour de France in 1967, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) introduced a list of prohibited substances. This list formed the basis of systematic drug testing at the Mexico Olympic Games in 1968.
