Abstract

In the European context, Vocational Education and Training (VET) is understood as education and training which aims to equip people with knowledge, know-how, skills and/or competences required in particular occupations or more broadly on the labour market (Cedefop 2008). Initial VET (I-VET) is vocational education and training carried out in the initial education system, usually before entering working life. Continuing VET (C-VET) takes place after initial education and training – or after entry into working life – and is aimed at helping individuals to a) improve or update their knowledge and/or skills, b) acquire new skills for a career move or retraining, and/or c) continue their personal or professional development (Cedefop 2008).
