One consequence of “development” thus far has been the (not uncontested) marginalization and misrepresentation of women in the South. What Alexander and Mohanty (1997) refer to as “historic and newly emergent forms of colonization” continue to play their role in keeping women of the “South” in their place as the other, while simultaneously stabilizing gendered, racialized and classed identities in the “North.”
