Abstract

For thousands of years China’s population has struggled with the country’s rivers, deltas, forests and mountains. The People’s Republic of China contains more diverse habitats than any other country in the world, and many of these habitats are spectacular—the country’s rivers, gorges, mountains and wildlife inspired many generations of poets, painters, writers and explorers.
