Abstract

It may seem a strange question to ask, but is there a need to manage people’s leisure? Leisure is freely chosen and is a concept at the opposite end of the spectrum from work; whilst management is most associated with work. Some of the most obvious leisure activities seem, on the face of it, to occur without the ‘interference’ of management, such as walking in mountains, by lakes or on the coast, or just relaxing or reading a book. These activities do not seem to require expensive facilities, services, programmes and staff in order to enjoy them.
