Abstract

Psychological perspectives have been influential in Leisure Studies and these perspectives are primarily those of social psychology with some influence from personality and developmental psychology. The psychology of leisure is concerned with how people choose to fill and structure their free or leisure time with behaviour and experience, why they make these choices, and the impact of these choices on well-being. The psychology of leisure is also concerned with the relationship between what people do in their leisure and what they do in the other domains of their lives, such as work, family, and community (Mannell and Kleiber, 1997).
