Abstract

The development of competitive sport in the Nordic countries – Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden – to a great extent parallels that of the United States and United Kingdom. Frequently, however, the Nordic countries are considered to be forerunners concerning gender-equality issues. This might be true in a way, but the picture is not unambiguous. Does the gender-equality success story really deliver what it promises within a Nordic sports context?
