Abstract

Sensors developed on the basis of solid-state electrolytes form a large group of electrochemical humidity sensors. Electrochemical sensors are based on the detection of an electroactive species that is involved in the chemical recognition processes and participates in charge transfer from a solid or liquid sample to an electrode or vice versa. This chapter describes the principles of operation of such sensors and analyzes the properties of materials suitable for the development of such devices. It is shown that the main material used in such sensors is metal oxides. A detailed description of the approaches used in the development of potentiometric, amperometric, and impedance humidity sensors is given. Advantages and disadvantages of such sensors are also analyzed in this chapter.
