Abstract

Peste des petits ruminants (PPR), caused by PPR virus (PPRV), is an acute and highly contagious disease of both domestic and wild small ruminants related to the eradicated rinderpest (RP) disease [1]. The disease is characterized by high fever, ocular and nasal discharges, pneumonia, necrosis and ulceration of the mucous membrane, and inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract leading to severe diarrhea and death [2,3]. PPR is now widely spread from the North, West, Central, and East Africa; Arabian Peninsula; Middle East; and Asian subcontinent [4].
