Abstract

A common question that arises in spatial epidemiology is whether a mapped disease pattern exhibits any significant deviation from a pattern of uniform disease risk throughout the study area. When temporal data such as onset of disease is available in addition to data on geographic location, additional questions may be asked. Has the spatial pattern changed over time? How might we detect an emergent cluster of cases as quickly as possible?
