Abstract

This chapter deals with a stationary frequency-modulated continuous-wave (SFMCW) system for which the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) sensor is quasi-stationary. Unlike the conventional SAR that makes use of the Doppler frequency by sensor motion, the SFMCW SAR, with no Doppler information available, must have a new signal model to design a proper focusing algorithm. In light of this, in this chapter, we derive a mathematical signal model, followed by developing a focusing algorithm based on the range–Doppler and chirp scaling algorithms, which were generally outlined in ]Chapter 5. Numerical simulations and indoor and outdoor experiments were designed and validated the system. Also presented is the motion compensation (MoCo), a sequel to Chapter 6.
