Visual sensation occurs when physical phenomena (photons) impinge upon the receptor organ, the eye, and give rise to physiological changes within various layers of the retina. The information resulting from these changes (mainly electrical) is processed and passed on to the brain for further processing. Final stimulation in the brain provides the visual sensation.
