Abstract

Saxitoxin and its analogues are neurotoxic alkaloids produced by certain strains of marine dinoflagellates and freshwater cyanobacteria. Collectively known as paralytic shellfish toxins (PSTs), these heterocyclic guanidine compounds are the causative agents of the condition known as paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP).
