Abstract

From the numerous agents selectable for an effective attack against society, brucellae are certainly among the most suitable. The resulting disease, brucellosis, is a member of the so-called dirty dozen, which reads like a “who is who” of highly infectious and incapacitating diseases. This illustrious circle further includes plague, tularemia, glanders/ melioidosis, Q-fever, anthrax, small pox, viral encephalitis, viral hemorrhagic fevers, ricin, botulinum toxins, and enterotoxin B from Staphylococcus aureus.
