Abstract

Crop productivity depends on genotypic and physiological–biochemical properties of plant species and varieties and their interaction with the environment. The genetically determined growth and development processes provide a basis of crop productivity. Substrate and energy provision of plant growth depend on photosynthesis, respiration, transport, and distribution of assimilates. Especially important are regulatory interactions between the functions that are realized through the sink–source system of the whole plant.
