Abstract

Over the last century, the intricate interaction between immunity and metabolism has been recognized and investigated extensively. 1 Indeed, it has been demonstrated that adipose tissue is not merely the site of energy storage, but can be considered as an “immune-related” organ producing a series of molecules named “adipocytokines.” Nutritional depletion, specific deficiencies, and kwashiorkor-like malnutrition suppress immune function.
