Abstract

The Merriam–Webster dictionary defines “elite” as the best of a class, and that is an apt description for athletes who compete in the professional arena or Olympic games. Athletes at the elite level often work at their sport on a full-time basis, that is, being an athlete is their job and as such they have time to train several times a day, compete with regularity, and often have support from coaches, medical staff, and sports dietitians to help them reach peak performance.
