Abstract

Recent wearable ambulatory monitoring technologies consist of wireless body-worn devices capable of monitoring vital signs (e.g. respiration rate (RR), heart rate (HR)) and physical activity (PA) levels that allow patients to freely ambulate, exercise and perform activities of daily living either within the hospital environment, their home or their community. Unfortunately, the majority of existing prototypes and commercially available products tend to be designed and manufactured with multiple off-the-shelf components, resulting in costly bulky devices prone to excessive power consumption.
