After recalling a few salient features of turbulent dispersion, this chapter reviews classical and relatively new theories. Following the observation that turbulent dispersion typically proceeds not only much faster but also in a qualitatively different manner than molecular diffusion, it is argued that the conventional approach of eddy diffusivity is inadequate and an alternative model ought to be developed to better represent observed behavior.
