Nanoparticle plasmonics is a rapidly emerging research field that deals with the fabrication and optical characterization of noble metal nanoparticles of various size, shape, structure, and tunable plasmon resonances over VIS-NIR spectral band. The recent advances in design, experimental re-alization, and biomedical application of such nanostructures are based on combination of robust synthesis or nanofabrication techniques with electromagnetic simulations and surface functionalization by biospecific molecular probes. The chapter presents a brief overview of these topics.
