Abstract

Visible and near-infrared light, particularly in the wavelength region 600–1000 nm, offer a window into tissues due to the reduced light scattering and absorption. Consequently many methods for functional imaging of the skin microcirculation utilize lasers and other light sources operating in this wavelength range. This chapter reports on modern biophotonic functional imaging methodologies most likely to succeed in general skin testing as well as routine clinical imaging of the microcirculation.
