Abstract

The term nanorod may be applied to an unbranched macro-molecule or supramolecular assembly whose diameter is a few nanometers or tens of nanometers and whose length is much longer than its diameter, giving a high aspect ratio. Additionally, nanorods are distinguished from long chain-like polymers by their stiffness; a nanorod has a clear orientation in space, and although it may be somewhat flexible, it does not readily fold or form coils.
