Abstract

A common philosophy is shared by all of the sciences, such as psychology, biology, chemistry, and physics. Therefore, this Handbook begins by briefly describing philosophy, the philosophy of science, and what this philosophy contributes to the sciences. Later in this chapter are discussions of the various approaches to knowledge; the relationship of non-scientific approaches to the scientific method and its ideal; and then delineation of science’s goals, assumptions, and requirements.
