Abstract

Experimental control is an extensive subject, and therefore two chapters are devoted to this very important issue. This chapter covers the topics of extraneous variables and variance, maximizing the primary variance produced by independent variables, and six techniques for controlling the secondary variance caused by extraneous variables. The next chapter will cover five more techniques for controlling secondary variance, and conclude with a discussion of minimizing error variance due to extraneous variables.
