Abstract

The large group of Gram-positive bacteria that have DNA with a high G+C content (above 50 mol %, with a few exceptions) are subsumed under the actinomycetes subphylum of Gram-positive eubacteria [111]. This group, which represents one of the main lines of descent within the domain Bacteria, was originally described on the basis of 16S rRNA cataloging [112] and represents an evolutionary line phylo-genetically distinct from the low G+C Gram-positive bacteria.
