Abstract

The protection of staff directly concerned with the practice of radiotherapy as well as other staff and the public at large, whether as visitors to the hospital or as persons in the vicinity of the hospital, must be considered in the design of radiation treatment facilities. A discussion of the approaches available to reduce staff doses is given in the Introduction to Part L. Protection of staff and public is mainly achieved by the use of shielded rooms and warning devices that exclude persons other than patients from areas of high radiation dose.
